Is Apple’s 5G iPhone 12 a worthy contender in the smartphone wars? Why do Aussies miss out on mmWave 5G?  Will the little HomePod mini punch above its weight? Did Apple time its iPhone launch event to coincide with our extra-special 300th episode? (We’d like to think so)

It’s our 300th episode, so we’ve cleaned up the green room, dug the fancy crackers out of the pantry and invited a plethora of special guests onto this bumper-sided episode!

Joining us this week are special guests Finder ed-in-chief Angus Kidman, Gizmodo Australia editor Tegan Jones, former MacworldAU editor Anthony Caruana PickrAU editor Leigh Stark and NewsCorp national tech editor Jen Dudley-Nicholson. That’s one packed green room, but we’ve obeyed social distancing laws by making it a virtual green room, complete with virtual cocktails!

300 Episodes Of Vertical Hold

300 episodes feels like a great achievement, and we can’t let the occasion pass without thanking our guests — not just the fab five on this week’s show, but everyone from the Australian (and wider) tech media scene who have come on the show over the past 7 years.

Wow. 7 years. Time passes so quickly, unless you happen to be in 2020, it seems.

Still, we have the following list of guests to thank, many of whom have graced our humble little podcast with their presence more than once. Whether you sing along to the tune of Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start The Fire” is entirely up to you.

So, huge thanks to (deep breath):

Alex Boz, Alex Choros, Alex Walker, Alice Clarke, Angus Kidman, Anthony Caruana, Ariel Bogle, Ben Grubb, Cameron Wilson, Chris Duckett, Chris Griffith, Chris Rowland, Claire Reilly, Corinne Reichert, Cyril The Cricket, Dan Tyson, David Braue, David Knox, David Swan, Els Baert, Emily Bencic, Fergus Halliday, Geoff Quattromani, James Tindale, Jason Cartwright, Jason Murray, Jennifer Dudley Nicholson, Jez Ford, Kerith Sharkey, Krishan Sharma, Lars Felber, Leigh Stark, Marc C-Scott, Mark Pesce, Mark Serrels, Matt Sainsbury, Matthew JC Powell, Matthew Wu, Michael McKinnon, Nic Healey, Nick Ross, Nick Whigham, Patrick Avenell, Patrick Gray, Paul Smith, Paul Spain, Peter Griffin, Peter Marks, Peter Wells, Phil Britt, Rae Johnston, Robert Dowell, Roland Vlaicu, Ros Page, Scott Plowman, Seamus Byrne, Simon Sharwood, Steve Collins, Steve Molk, Steven Fenech, Stilgherrian, Supratim Adhikari, Tegan Jones, Tim Biggs, Wilson da Silva and Zac McClelland.
